Street performing, Hair, Spelling
Hey guys. So yesterday sucked. I went to the Promenade to street perform and I did like 3 shows (from 8 to 8:45 pm) until it got so dark that I couldn't juggle anymore. It turned out there was a fire somewhere in Santa Monica and the street lights on the part of the Promenade I was at were out. So I ended up wasting like 2 hours of my time going there and back... That was upsetting. A couple of people who read the blog came to see my first few shows. Thanks for doing so, and sorry to people who came to see me after 8:45.
Olga and I also got haircuts yesterday. Though I just got one like a couple of weeks ago, everybody around here seemed to have felt that I needed a whole bunch of hair cut off again. So that's what happened. People seem to be surprisingly concerned about my hair, so I hope you guys all like it. I can't tell if it's good or not, but hey, I'd do me regardless of my hair. Nah, not really... I really can't tell if I would or not.
In this paragraph, I'd like to discuss spelling. In my opinion, the goal of typing/writing is communicating something, so as long as one's spelling is not so bad that I can't understand what they're trying to say, that usually doesn't bug me. So for example with only a few rare occasions, confusing their and they're doesn't impair my understanding of what people are trying to say, so I'm cool with that. However, if one takes that mistake to the next level and spells "tough - "tuff", that confuses me a little bit, and makes me take my time a figure out what the person meant. So that's mildly annoying. And now on to my favorite example of that mess up (really, the only reason why I started talking about this). One guy (I'm going to keep his name confidential) was talking about how he had low self-esteem and instead of typing "self-esteem" he typed "self of steam". Now how the hell did steam get into the picture?! That mess up cracked me up too much for me to be in any way annoyed by it. So the moral of the story is, if you're going to fuck up your spelling, fuck up in a really big and funny way.

Yes! Not that your previous blogs didn't have personality, but blogs like this with humor and insight will keep people coming back more and more.

I agree for the most part about spelling mistakes. 'You' instead of 'your' is a typo, as is 'jsut.' That just comes from typing too fast. What I don't agree with is Their vs. They're. That is certainly not a typo, that is complete ignorance toward the English language. And my comment isn't against people learning English as a second language, it is mostly against native speakers/writers of the language. Most people who learn a foreign language know the grammar and syntax better than the native speakers, because they have to learn it academically from scratch. It is the lazy Americans who screw up "there" words so much. (Whenever I have a question about grammar I ask my fiance from Bulgaria; she knows some pretty tough grammar that I missed in 3rd grade.) I think Americans should learn what a word means before typing it. If they goof up and type theirr, that's different than typing "its" for "it's."
Wa'hts cool is taht pelope who kown Egnislh wlel can raed msot setnncees as lnog as the frsit and scnoed ltretes are the smae as the ogirnal wrdos.
Russians learn to write English with correct semanticheskii, why can't we?

Jeff is right that the worst spellers are the ones that were born here. Vova writes very well for an 18 yr old, and seeing that he is serious about it, we tend to correct him in order to help him perfect it, not to make fun of him. Kids seem to think that it's cute to misspell things--boiz, gurlz, tuff, thunderbunz, etc. That must be hell for someone trying to learn proper English! Seriously, drop the f-word, or you'll have the fundamentalists all over your, uh, case!
Oh, and i'ts the frsit and lsat lteetrs (not scnoed ltretes) taht hvae to rieamn in the smae place.

hey vova! that post absolutly cracked me up! first of all because i know where you are coming from where everyone seems to be more concerned about your hair than you ever would be. i think that it must be because you hardly ever see it that you don't think about it as much. or maybe you just have really hair obsessed friends?
anyways, i also really know where you are coming from on the spelling too! why? because i can't spell to save my life! thank god for autospell check on microsoft. i'm sure that you could beat me in a spell off any day and i grew up in america. pathetic i know.

See? Didn't I warn you you about the fundamentalists coming out of the woodwork at the first whiff of the f-word? They can't help themselves. You are probably going to have "Judah" all over your ass now until you delete them both. And no, I'm not Judah! Geesh.....

Street performing is unpredictable. Sometimes I spend $10 on gas to go perform, and end up with $6 in my hat because it rained, or it was too hot for anyone to be out. Its a totally unpredictable business. Its never fun when you have to SPEND money to entertain people.
I really want to see your show, any chance of a video being put up on the net? Maybe someone who goes to see it could video tape it and upload it for the rest of us?

I just started really getting into street performing about a year ago. Sadly, I go to a rather small college in a very isolated part of Ohio, so my opportunities to show off and put down the hat a somewhat limited :*( My father was a clown with Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey for a few years, and he always loved getting people to laugh and smile with some silly juggling and off color humor.
I have come to find that I enjoy getting people together and laughing much much more than I do cleaning up on a good run. I was curious, given how you seem to have lots of opportunities to perform in public and how you (I should only hope) manage to draw quite a nice crowd, how you feel about performing for people? Do you joke around and laugh with your audience, scream poetry or crack jokes? Do you get a sort of giddy feeling in your gut when a group of small kids stop and ask you about what your doing, if your a magician, if what your doing is real? That’s the sort of thing that really makes performing worthwhile to me. What’s going through your mind?
You’re a real inspiration for me as a juggler, and I want to thank you for being so open and free with your experiences.

have you ever thought about using Glow, LED lighted, or Fire equipment I know there are retaileres that sell glow clubs and my friends who don't even juggle think that'd be awesome to watch.

"They're" vs "They are" and "it's" vs "its" really annoys me big time! And don't even get me started on "should of"! As Jeff said, there's really no way anybody who has learnt English as a second language can screw those up - only an ignorant native-speaker is capable of such abominations. It is my firm conviction that they should all read and memorize these guides.
And what's so fucking bad about saying "fuck"? It's just a goddamn mother-fucking word! To quote Cartman: Fuck fuckedy fuck fuck fuck!
